CHAPTER FOURTEEN

“Another dead body? This time a woman? What the hell is going on?” Omar paced back and forth in his hotel room.

There was a long sigh on the other end of the line. “The situation became difficult, and an extreme action had to be taken. It’s regrettable, but sometimes these things do happen.”

“Regrettable? Who is going to believe two deaths on board the ship is merely coincidence? Is the FBI really on board to investigate?” He drew a harsh breath. “What kind of a mess are you getting me involved in?”

“Mr. Balik.” The man’s voice sharpened. “It is you who involved us in this matter. It’s true that it’s taken an unfortunate turn, but things are still under control. Your name has not been associated with either deaths, or the incident in general. You need to remain calm and let us handle the situation.”

“But the FBI? They’re going to investigate—"

“They are on board to investigate the American’s death. They have no jurisdiction over the Egyptian woman’s death, nor does the Egyptian government want them here any longer than absolutely necessary. I have it on good authority they will be asked to leave in a matter of days. The situation is under control.” There was a pause. “How are things on your end?”

Omar smiled. For once, things on his end were going well. They’d hammered out the last of the new deal last night. They were going to sign the paperwork tomorrow and have a celebratory dinner afterward. One more day. That was it. One more day, and then his life would change drastically. He couldn’t wait to see the look on his father’s face when he announced the deal had been signed. He had another surprise in store for his father and it was a big one. “Things on my end are good.”

“Glad to hear it. I’ll be in touch when things have calmed down.” The line went dead.
